Sandi and I visited this park in August 2008 and found it to be nestled around a man-made lake in the midst of a juniper forest. The trees offered little shade, but lots of privacy for each full-hookup RV site.
One park rating website rated Mineral Wells State Park an 8.0 out of 10. Click here for rating and explanation.
Since we camp and drive, we found the old city of Mineral Wells quaint and not so attractive. This was once a spa for people who came to bathe in hot mineral waters that came from wells in the area.
The one attraction that is a must see is Clarke Gardens Botanical Park. This garden has been featured in Texas Highways magazine. It is truly a world-class gardens. Sandi and I have visited many famous gardens in the United Kingdom, and Clarke Gardens rates up there with the best.
Clarke Gardens is located at 567 Maddux Rd, Weatherford, TX, 76068. The phone number is 940-682-4856. It is open daily year around. Click here for a Google Map of Clarke Gardens.
Tyler (TX) State Park
Sandi and I last visited Tyler (Texas) State Park in March 2009. We have visited this park many times.
Sites for RV's offer shaded areas and a view to a beautiful man-made lake. For those who have solar panels to "feed", there are also lots of open, sunny areas, too.
We enjoyed the natural hardwood forrest walnut trees. During one stay in the fall, walnuts were dropping off the trees.
We mix camping with driving. The City of Tyler has a beautiful rose garden located at 1900 W. Front Street. The rose garden visitor center features a Rose Museum ,too.
Other times of the year, the city sponsors a rose festival and an Tyler Azalea Trails Festival.
This is one of the few parks that offers WiFi wireless internet services to email family and friends.
The parks is a short distance off of Interstate Highway 20 and makes a great stopover point for anyone traveling on I-20.
