Rend Lake


Rend Lake is an 18,900-acre reservoir in southern Illinois about 15 miles south of Mount Vernon. The Corps of Engineers project offers over 400 campsites in four public campgrounds on the lake. The largest campground is South Marcum, which has over 140 sites with electric hookups for less than $22 per night.

Description: This county park campground is along IL 31, south of Algonquin. The park has 54 sites, ten with 50-amp electric service. The park also has a dump station. Reservations are not accepted. Open May through October.

Description: 590-acre county park northwest of Elgin. From Interstate 90 (Northwest Tollway) Exit 26, south on N Randall Rd to Big Timber Rd; turn right (west). Travel about 1.5 miles west to Forest Preserve entrance. The campground has 48 sites with water and electric (50-amp) hookups, 18 tent-only sites, dump station, playground, and stocked fishing ponds. Reservations are not accepted. Open May through October.

Description: 2,200 acre county park including 900-acre Evergreen Lake. Over 130 campsites including 20/30/50 amp electrical service, showers, dump station, playgrounds, swimming beach, boat rental. Over 20 miles of trails. Two miles west of Interstate 39 Exit 8. Eight miles north of Bloomington/Normal, IL and Interstates 55 & 74. Reservations generally required for weekend stays during the summer season.

Description: City park in East Peoria. From I-74 Exit 95b, follow US 150 north for about 3 1/2 miles.

Campground: Open Mar-Dec, 74 sites, $18 to $20 per night, drinking water, restrooms with flush toilets, showers, laundry, dump station, picnic tables, fire pits/grills, playground, marina, boat ramp, swimming area.

Comments: Spindler offers 48 paved sites with electric (30/50-amp), a combination of water or sewer hookups, and 26 primitive sites with electricity for campers or tents.
